It’s that time of year again known in retail as the ‘Party Dress Season’ – it’s probably the only part of the festive season that I can’t quite get on board with. The sequins, sparkles and thigh-scraping dresses are all over the highstreet and they look incredible on other people. I just can’t bring myself to do it. If I’m going for Christmas meal I want something to hide my food baby, if I’m going out dancing I want something that won’t hurt my feet and in all cases I want something I feel comfortable and happy in.
My nod to festive dressing is smarter and sparklier than usual but it’s still ‘me’. There’s nothing worse that getting all trussed up and spending the evening uncomfortably pulling down your dress, rearranging your bra straps, not being able to breath or go to the toilet for fear you won’t fit back in those Bridget Jones knickers. Yes… we’ve all been there at one point in our lives.
I feel like I’m too old for this nonsense – I want to have a good time, eat too much turkey and drink too much mulled wine and I want to be happy. When looking at the shops and being faced with the prospect of Christmas Party dressing I knew exactly how I was going to do it. Metallic, black and tailoring. I saw these gorgeous NEXT boots on instagram a month back and knew they were exactly what I needed to jazz up my outfit.
