One of my key wardrobe essentials which will see me through seasons and isn’t ‘trend-led’ is the trench coat. Trenches are the easiest way to pull together an outfit – you can put it over pretty much anything and POW – I look like I’ve got my shit together.
The best place in my experience to pick up a trench or any light jacket is Topshop. This trench I’m wearing here is from Topshop but isn’t currently online – the closest I’ve found is this tie sleeve one from Cheap Monday.
These are two ways I typically wear a trench – mostly because I never do ‘dressy’ – the all black outfit I would wear at work, the weekends and after work so it’s the most versatile. Also.. wearing black (as I’ve spoken about at length) is unapologetically the best. The second would be more of a weekend outfit for me, something to pop to the shops in, have brunch or a root around in an art gallery. It’s all about the comfort for me – which is why I’d almost always pair with trainers or maybe boots if I was feeling FRESH.
When I was looking for the perfect trench I wanted something light enough to be worn indoors so that I could wear it in work meetings without looking odd, material which hung nicely and something not too heavy – I wanted this as a transitional piece for autumn and spring when it rolls around. I wanted something classic with a twist which is why I picked one with added tie detail on the wrists. This is also super practical for short ladies like me who find sleeves easily come down over their hands.
