I thought I’d share with you the perfect Camel coat I found from And Other Stories and why I’ve ditched most of my clothes in the last 6 months.
Over the last 6 months since moving into a much smaller room with absolutely zero storage I’ve gotten rid of a LOT of my clothes. When I moved in there was just a bed so I have underbed storage for out of season items and bed linens, a small crate for my shoes, a small storage box for my underwear and 1 single rack for my clothes. I decided as this would be main storage method that I would ‘splash’ out a little – I picked up this beautiful oak and rose gold storage rail from La Redoute – they often do great discount codes I think there’s 50% sale on at the moment. On this rail I have my jackets, jeans, trousers, shirts and jackets. On the coat front I actually gave away most of my old coats because I wanted to invest in one really great goat. This is THE coat of dreams from And Other Stories it’s an Alpaca Wool blend, it’s beautifully lined and the perfect relaxed boyfriend fit. I sized up so that I could still fit chunky knits underneath but I don’t think that’s really necessary in hindsight. It was £165 which is the most I’ve ever spend on a coat but after much deliberation and watching a ‘testing basics’ from Lizzy I was sold. It’s the perfect camel colour – not too orangey, gentle and muted.
Another thing I’ve done since the wardrobe culling is really condense my denim selection. I repaired the Phoebe MiH Jeans I love, I wore through my favourite New Look pair in a matter of months so I decided to pick up a solid, sturdy, hard wearing pair from Weekday via ASOS. I picked up the Weekday Seattle Jeans in black but had to cut the bottom off because they were made for tall scandi ladies. With the condensing of my wardrobe I’ve also done the same with my shoes. I’ve thrown away the ones with broken soles, given away the ones I don’t wear and put away my impractical summer shoes narrowing it down to some solid brands like Dr Martens – I recently picked up my first pair of Converse High Tops in over a decade and I couldn’t love them more.
The more clothes I’ve given away, the less attached to ‘things’ I’ve been. Realistically I was only wearing a small % of my wardrobe so by shedding the dead weight I felt a lot more free and comfortable with my style. I’ve condensed what I love to just the key items and I’ve never felt like my wardrobe was drastically lacking. Just proof that I don’t need those 1001 ASOS orders a month. Alongside this coat I’ve also added a sexy mother puffer from Uniqlo but you’ll have to wait until next time to see that!
