The Glove Shoes Trend… the return of the Fugly shoe

The Glove Shoe. Love it or hate it… it’s here to stay. Back in 2015 we saw the glove shoe adorn the Celine runway and throughout the summer Rachel Comey, COS, and Maryam Nassir Zadeh all released their versions.

Finally SS16 is where the the highstreet finally catches up giving us price friendly alternative.

Sometimes I feel like the designers are playing a practical joke on us. First it was the rise of the Birkenstocks and now it’s the turn of the Glove Shoe. Personally as a women with a hankering for FUGLY (fashion-ugly) shoes the glove shoe was like a personal present from Phoebe Philo. Now at long last the highstreet has picked up and made their own versions.

All the usual suspects joined in, COS was the first followed shortly by sell-out Zara dupes. Finally H&M joined the crowd with an even more affordable version – but good luck finding them in stores outside London! Then there was Topshop releasing Black, Grey and Metallic shortly followed by  White, Red and Orange… clearly Topshop thinks they are going to be big this summer! The issue I have with these versions is that they don’t look particularly comfy.

The whole Philo look was the elasticated front section which just screams comfort… these high street versions didn’t have this. Until *drum roll* ASOS showed up and blew them all away. They released the ASOS Simone heels in Black and Nude with the block heel and the elasticated front an I was all over that. They are extremely comfy, add a little height and are around HALF THE PRICE of the Topshop ones… you are welcome!
